Second week homework

Hello threr.
your homework this week to to read the Packet Mrs. Kershner handed out to you all.  30 pages long, I know.  Focus on the project part.
Think up topics.

We had a group focusing on that last week and they had several good ideas!  but it is always good to have some more.  If your parents are willing to help build the play game board please let me know in the comments or tell Mrs. Kershner to pass it along!

Good luck and godspeed!

Hello Team and Parents.

This blog will be one way for us to interact outside of the classroom.  With only 40 minutes a week we will need all the help we can get.  I would ask the parents involved to help their children with accessing and commenting on this blog.  The students privacy is a high priority for me so I asked all the student to come up with a nickname to use both in the class and on here, they can leave comments as anonymous with their nickname.

A bit of introduction for the parents, I am the husband of the Wednesday-Friday secretary.  I work as a computer programmer for ODOT.  My college education was focused in Biblical Studies/Youth Ministry and I minored (almost, skipping a final is a bad idea)  in Computer Science.  My two kids attend Mid Valley and love it.  My favorite veggie is Kale.  My favorite candy bar is ...anything without chocolate (yeah I'm one of them).

If you parents have any questions please feel free to ask me at pickup time, on this blog, or give my wife a note.

Since there is a huge amount of work to be done this may be a stressful time for the students.  I will try to emphasize fun and keep things light but we all need to agree to have a good attitude.  OKAY?
At some point we will need to schedule extra time to do practices and such, but we will save that for a later date.

Parents, so you know what your kids have gotten into here are some videos of what is in the First Lego League.

Also, here is a link to the FLL site.  They have several good PDF's and info to read about the challenge this year.  http://www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge/2014fllworldclass

homework assignment:
  1. find/make up a robot joke and post it in the comments.
  2. Watch the videos
  3. Peruse the website.
  4. Think about what part you want to work in the most.  We will be doing a lot more than just building stuff.  Are you going to work more on the programming the robot, researching the project,  managing the different aspects of the team?
  5. brainstorm ideas for the project and bring those to class next time.

Good Luck and Godspeed
